An online learning course for teachers interested in teaching Hebrew through Movement based on James J. Asher’s Total Physical Response (TPR) has now launched. Ten hours of interesting, engaging and hands-on asynchronous learning will provide the basic skills and understandings for teachers to be ready to integrate HTM in their classes this fall. New classes open every two weeks, from now through September, and then into the school year.

The seminar includes:

  • Nine online modules, completed in ten hours (on average)
  • Readings, video examples, targeted assignments
  • Support by Marcia Anouchi, a master teacher with years of experience in Hebrew TPR

You will learn:

  • How Hebrew Through Movement is supported by brain-based learning concepts
  • The most important TPR teaching principles (their definitions, what they look like in a classroom, and how to create lessons with them in mind)
  • Classroom arrangements that support Hebrew Through Movement
  • The ins and outs of the Hebrew Through Movement curriculum guide
  • How to create “teaching scripts”
  • How to evaluate student success and offer remediation to students who are struggling
  • How to evaluate student success and offer remediation to students who are struggling

"Hebrew through Movement" was developed by Dr. Lifsa Schachter with the support of other faculty at Siegal College through courses and community workshops. It is based on an adaptation of James J. Asher’s Total Physical Response (TPR). As with other TPR curricula, it introduces Hebrew in a playful and meaningful way, creating a positive first link between children and Hebrew. It is supported by the latest brain research on learning, providing an aural foundation for Hebrew that opens the door to more facile Hebrew decoding and reading.
