Welcome to Sifriyat Pijama B’America! Sifriyat Pijama B’America (SP-BA), a Hebrew and Jewish Family Engagement literacy program implemented on a local level throughout the United States. We promote Jewish Values by mailing free, high-quality Hebrew children's literature and music to families on a monthly basis. SP-BA is a non-profit program aimed at creating connections to Jewish Life and enhancing Jewish and Hebrew education. Inspired by PJ Library®, Sifriyat Pijama B’America is a program of the Israeli-American Council (IAC) in partnership with The Adam and Gila Milstein Family Foundation, The Harold Grinspoon Foundation (HGF) and the Avi-Chai Foundation. It has also been made possible through partnerships with philanthropists and local Jewish organizations.
The aim of Sifriyat Pijama B’America is to enhance knowledge and affinity to Jewish values from a young age by reading together and discussing books from a Jewish perspective as a family. The program offers Jewish children and their families an opportunity to create a tradition of reading bedtime stories in Hebrew together and enjoying meaningful conversations on Jewish topics in the privacy of your home. We believe that by learning about Jewish values, and hearing stories in the Hebrew language, Jewish children are likely to share a strong appreciation and affinity to Israel as well as shared Jewish culture and language. They retain a strong Jewish identity and appreciation of Hebrew, the language of the Jewish people. Participating children, ages two through eight, of Sifriyat Pijama B’America are introduced every year, to eight high-quality children’s books and a music DVD which are selected in Israel by a team of experts including Jewish educators, early childhood educators, Bible scholars, and representatives of the Israeli Ministry of Education.
The books are delivered to the registered child’s home and contain a parent guide with suggestions of activities and discussions for parents to enjoy with their children. All families (with at least one Hebrew reading and speaking adult) raising Jewish children from age two through eight years are welcome to sign up through SP-BA partner organizations, Reading and Activities Events or at our website. All books are for free and forever and they do not need to be returned to SP-BA at any time.
