Pedagogy Lishma: A Professional Development Opportunity for Teachers of Jewish Texts

In conjunction with the publication of Turn It and Turn It Again: Studies in the Teaching and Learning of Classical Jewish Texts (Jon A. Levisohn and Susan P. Fendrick, eds., 2013), the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Center for Studies in Jewish Education at Brandeis is launching an experimental professional development opportunity for teachers of Jewish texts at Jewish day schools.The goal of the program is to develop a small community of practitioners engaged together in thinking more deeply and critically about issues related to the teaching of Jewish texts
The program will consist of six one - hour online study sessions in early 2014.Each session will focus on an article that discusses the teaching of texts in a particular setting. Participants will also be expected to offer their ideas about the topics under discussion in writing, in brief posts to an online forum, before and after the study sessions. Finally, participants will be interviewed about their experience at the conclusion of the program.
Teachers of classical Jewish texts in Jewish day schools (either middle or high school), with at least two years of full-time teaching experience, are welcome to apply.
Participants will receive a small stipend upon completion of the program and a copy of Turn It and Turn It Again.
