The UJA-Federation of New York takes tremendous pride in announcing the Day School Challenge Fund. This extraordinary opportunity for area day schools and yeshivot is designed to incentivize the development and growth of school endowments. Endowments are key to achieving long-term sustainability. Thanks to the generosity of a group of individuals and foundations, and UJA-Federation of New York, $50 million in matching funds will be awarded to schools that establish or expand their endowments.

The fund will match endowment dollars that schools raise on a one-to-three ratio. When complete, $200 million in new endowments will be secured. With this additional revenue stream, schools will be able to subsidize tuition and invest in educational excellence.

This fund is a communal legacy, a gift from a coalition of funders — including The AVI CHAI Foundation and the Jim Joseph Foundation; generous philanthropists including Giti and Jack Bendheim, Alisa and Dan Doctoroff, Tamar and Eric Goldstein, The Gottesman Fund, George Klein, and Pamela and George Rohr; and $20 million earmarked from our endowment by the Board of Directors. It is also an exciting challenge to our schools to secure their futures.

The Day School Challenge Fund reflects UJA-Federation’s ever-deepening commitment to Jewish day schools and our strong belief in the vital role they play in educating and inspiring the next generation of leaders. Working together, we can make our schools stronger, more effective, and more affordable to more families. The promise of tomorrow’s inspired Jewish community begins today.

Detailed application materials will be available on our website in early September 2014.
